Meet the

Physio’s

Mary-Lynn Janse v Rensburg

In 2001, Mary-Lynn earned her physiotherapy qualification from Stellenbosch University. Motivated by her strong dedication to alleviating individuals’ pain through movement, she embarked on an extensive journey of post-qualification education.

In 2004, she discovered Kinetic Control, a comprehensive movement assessment system developed by Mark Comerford and Sarah Mottram. Recognizing it as a crucial component in physiotherapy, Mary-Lynn committed herself to mastering its principles.

In 2013, she attained qualification as a Kinetic Control therapist after completing a master’s module in “Movement Solutions” at Keele University. Throughout her academic pursuits, Mary-Lynn immersed herself in an international practice centred on Kinetic Control principles. She worked at a physio clinic with an associated running school, utilizing Kinetic Control methodologies to assess patients for movement faults and guide them in retraining their running techniques to prevent injuries and improve performance.

Over eight years at the clinic, Mary-Lynn’s passion for assisting runners in refining their techniques and achieving their goals grew stronger. In 2016, drawn by her African heritage, she returned to South Africa and partnered with Anine van der Westhuizen biokinetics in George. Here, she became an integral part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to helping patients achieve pain-free and confident movement.

In 2019, Mary-Lynn expanded her expertise by exploring McKenzie techniques, discovering additional methods for empowering patients to manage their conditions through personalized movement techniques aligned with their body’s directional preferences. This exploration further honed her skills in movement assessment and retraining, reinforcing her commitment to enhancing patients’ quality of life through physiotherapy.

Firmly rooted in the belief that movement is transformative and that liberation from pain is achievable through purposeful and fearless movement, she continue to champion this ethos in their practice.

Emile Vermaak

Emile, a distinguished physiotherapist, graduated Cum Laude from the University of Pretoria in 2000. His curious pursuit of more refined evidence-based treatment strategies led him to partake in a variety of educational modules, culminating in the completion of a post-graduate study in Orthopaedic Manipulative Physiotherapy (OMT1) in 2007. Emile’s expertise was recognized when he served as a course tutor for OMT1 during the 2011 and 2013 program in Bloemfontein.

In 2016, Emile added a powerful new dimension to his treatment approach when he passed the credentialing exam administered by the McKenzie Institute International, earning his status as a McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy® (MDT) certified therapist.

In his endeavour to not only alleviate symptoms, but identify and treat the root cause, Emile advocates for an evidence based holistic approach to treatment and rehabilitation.

Leveraging his extensive background in private practice, which includes more than 5 years physiotherapy experience in the UK, Emile seamlessly integrates traditional OMT techniques with advanced MDT strategies as well as the latest research in diagnosing and treatment. This proven combination allows him to effectively address all types of acute and chronic neuro-musculo-skeletal disorders, including headaches, back and neck pain, sciatica and extremity pain affecting areas such as the shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and ankles.

Fuelled by his compassion for people and unwavering commitment to excellence, Emile finds immense fulfilment in assisting every patient in their journey towards healing and achieving their optimal potential as they return to thoughtless, fearless movement.
